From Vail Christian High School to Healing the World: Michelle Disher's Journey

When Michelle Disher graduated from Vail Christian High School in 2009, little did she know that her journey would take her from Vail Colorado to the far corners of the globe, all in the pursuit of healing and helping others. Today, Michelle is not just an alumna of VCHS but a practicing physician, specializing in family medicine, with an undying passion for addressing global health crises.

Michelle's journey to becoming a physician and advocate for global health began at the University of Denver, where she pursued her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Global Health. During this time, she nurtured her love for understanding different cultures and their healthcare needs.

While many college students were focused solely on their studies, Michelle was already making a difference. She volunteered in Peru, dedicating herself to improving global health outcomes in underserved communities. This experience inspired her to pursue a career in medicine.

Following her volunteer work in Peru, Michelle embarked on a rigorous academic journey at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. There, she attended medical school, channeling her passion for global health into her studies. After earning her medical degree, she completed a fellowship in Emergency Room and family medicine at North Colorado Medical Center. This experience deepened her understanding of the diverse healthcare needs of communities, from urban emergency rooms to rural family practices.

Today, Michelle is a practicing physician, specializing in family medicine at St. Anthony North in Westminster, Colorado. Her dedication to her patients and her unwavering passion for global health drive her every day.

Looking back at her time at Vail Christian High School, Michelle attributes her love for science and medicine, in part, to the educators who inspired her. She fondly remembers her AP Biology teacher, Geoff Bedrosian, and the high expectations he had for his students. His guidance and support played a pivotal role in shaping Michelle's academic and professional journey.

Michelle also speaks highly of her AP Calculus teacher, Doug Bruce, who was not just an educator but a father figure to all who had the privilege of being his students. His dedication to their success in the classroom and on the basketball court instilled in Michelle and her peers a strong work ethic and a deep love for learning.

For current students at VCHS, Michelle has some wise advice. "Focus on yourself and your own passions," she advises, "and let those passions guide you in life."

Michelle's journey is a testament to the power of following one's heart and pursuing a path that aligns with one's deepest values.

As she continues to practice medicine and work towards her goal of making a global impact, Michelle Disher stands as an inspiration to the Vail Christian High School community and beyond. Her journey from VCHS to the frontlines of healthcare is a testament to the transformative power of education, dedication, and the pursuit of one's passions.
