Celebrating Excellence: Dr. Patrick Jon Bevan, VCHS Alumni Class of 2004

Vail Christian High School proudly recognizes Dr. Patrick Jon (PJ) Bevan, an esteemed member of the Class of 2004, for his outstanding accomplishments in the field of medicine and his dedication to making a difference.

Following his time at Vail Christian High School, PJ pursued his passion for education and sports at Gustavus Adolphus, where he excelled as a hockey player. Continuing his academic journey, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2008.

Post-graduation from CU Boulder, PJ took a temporary detour to play professional hockey in Germany. Through his own personal health journey during this time and his experience as a cast technician for Dr. Abbott and Dr. Gottlieb at Vail Summit Orthopaedics, he found his passion in the field of medicine.

With a strong desire to study medicine, PJ pursued his medical education at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest in Lebanon, Oregon. He furthered his expertise in orthopedics by completing residency at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital in Ohio and a sports medicine fellowship at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, CA where he served as an associate team physician for the LA Chargers.

Today, PJ's dedication to the field of medicine and his dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon has come to fruition as he serves as a respected orthopedic surgeon with Vail Summit Orthopaedics at Middle Park Health in neighboring Grand County. His commitment to excellence and passion for medicine are evident in his accomplishments.

Beyond his professional pursuits, PJ is actively engaged in humanitarian efforts. He has contributed significantly to medical mission trips to Africa, specifically in Kenya at Tenwek Hospital. PJ, alongside his wife Maggie, co-founded the non-profit organization "Ken-Ya Believe" and collaborates with Samaritan’s Purse to provide essential medical services and supplies to communities in Kenya while serving as an Ortho Council member of the Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS).

Maintaining strong ties with his alma mater, PJ has recently reconnected with Vail Christian High School, offering guidance to students interested in the medical field. Scheduled to be a featured presenter in early 2024 as part of the On-the Menu speakers series, PJ continues to inspire the next generation.

Reflecting on his formative years at VCHS, PJ fondly acknowledges the teachers who influenced his love for education and faith, including Bob and Linda Isbell, Dave Sharpe, Corey Baden, and Mindy Larson. Lessons of honesty, humility, and not taking oneself too seriously have been integral to his journey.

PJ's advice to current VCHS students is rooted in faith: "Try to pick up your Bible and engage in devotion every day. Be in the Word." His life serves as a testament to the transformative power of education, dedication, and unwavering faith.

As we celebrate Dr. Patrick Jon Bevan, we applaud his achievements and anticipate the continued positive impact he will make in the medical field and beyond. VCHS is proud to call PJ one of its own, extending heartfelt congratulations on his exceptional journey.
